Think of DigiD as your digital ID for the Netherlands. You’ll use it to log into government websites and arrange things like taxes, health insurance, healthcare, and other official admin.
1. Make sure you have your BSN
You’ll need your BSN before you can apply for a DigiD.
2. Apply online
Go to the official DigiD website and fill out the application with your BSN, date of birth, and address.
3. Wait for your letter in the mail 📬
You’ll receive a letter at your registered Dutch address with an activation code. This usually takes a few days.
4. Activate your DigiD
Use the activation code on the letter to activate your account. You can also set up the DigiD app, which makes logging in much easier!
5. Keep your login details safe
You’ll probably end up using DigiD way more than you expect, so definitely save your details somewhere secure.
My tip: Get this sorted early. A lot of Dutch admin basically starts with: “Log in with your DigiD.” 😅
