You’ll probably want a Dutch bank account pretty soon after moving here, especially if you’re working and need somewhere to get your salary paid.

I went with bunq because it was the easiest option for me. I could do everything online and didn’t have to deal with going into a bank or making an appointment. I literally just needed a basic debit account, so I wasn’t looking into credit cards or anything fancy.

1. Pick a bank

There are quite a few options in the Netherlands, so definitely have a look around and see what works for you. I went with bunq, but you could also check out ABN AMRO, ING or Rabobank.

2. Apply online

You’ll need your ID and some basic personal details. Having your BSN and Dutch address sorted will make things easier.

3. Verify your identity

Follow the steps in the app/website to verify yourself. Pretty straightforward.

4. Get your IBAN 🎉

Once everything is approved, you’ll have your Dutch bank account details, also known as your IBAN, ready to use for your salary, rent, bills, Tikkies, etc.

My tip: I just wanted something quick and easy, and bunq did the job for me. But if you’re looking for things like credit cards, savings accounts or other perks, I’d definitely compare a few banks before deciding.
